One of our connectivity solutions uses a class of lasers which within the industry are referred to as Free Space Optics (FSO).

The 'Free Space' alludes to the fact that no government license or telecommunications license is required to operate and own an FSO Laser Link.

The technology of free space optics (FSO) uses infrared laser light in the form of laser beams to transport data between two sites.

It requires the following conditions to be satisfied: 

• Direct line-of-sight between the two sites.

• Distance between the two sites less than 4km.

Capable of providing Gigabit speed, it can be used as a permanent or temporary installation and as a primary or backup network link.

We have several clients that already have expensive managed fibre links and use the FSO link as an emergency backup.

FSO lasers can be deployed very quickly and proved invaluable restoring infrastructure and aiding communications between emergency services during recent natural disasters in the USA.

The main benefits are that it can be rapidly deployed, is licence free, has a relatively fast return on investment period of 6 months, is transportable, and has high security against network intrusion.
