A Leased Line is a dedicated telecommunications link. It is also commonly know as a Lease Line or a Private
Circuit. It uses one or more digital telephone lines and routers, with the
signal carried over either copper or fibre.
Typical speeds available are from 64kbps through
to 155Mbps with higher bandwidths costing more. You will be charged a fee for
installation and also an annual rental fee. It can either be used to give you a fast stable link to the internet (Internet
Leased Line) or as a dedicated always on link between two sites, (Point to Point
Leased Line).
For an Internet Leased Line, the further your office site is from the local telephone exchange,
then the more it will cost.
The cost of a Point to Point Leased line is also dependant on the distance between
your 2 office site's as well as the path that the route takes through local telephone
exchanges. Again, it is also dependant on the bandwidth you require.
The costs increase require high bandwidth (>2Mbps) over a large distance.
Due to these variables we cannot publish an online price for these products,
we need to individually quote for each solution.
Let's focus on Point to Point (P2P) Leased lines for now.
They are typically used to connect together geographically distant sites and can
be used for telephone or data services. As with a Laser Link,
Microwave Link or a
Wireless Link the bandwidth between your sites is uncontended.
The uptime is high with reliability outstripping ADSL,
SDSL and ISDN. This high availability is usually
touted as its strongest point. Laser and
Microwave technologies can also demonstrate 'High Availability'
of 99.99%
when correctly implemented.
In fact your Leased Line traffic may in fact actually pass
through several of BT's own Microwave Links on its way to
your site.
A Laser Link, Microwave Link or Wireless Link could give you in some cases
50,
100 or 500 X the bandwidth of a leased line connection for the same price
and the same availability - but without the recurring annual rental fees - you
would own the link. It is also important regardless of your eventual choice of
technological solution to understand what the difference is between
99.999% and
99.9% availability.
We understand that making any infrastructure commitment takes time and does not
happen over night. It is our aim to help make you aware of what solutions are
available to link your sites together, matching your budget with your bandwidth
needs. If a Leased Line is the correct solution to your needs we would be more
than happy to supply you with a competitive quote for this service.
We are a technical solutions - not a sales orientated company, and are more that
happy to assist you at any point with free technical advice and pointers.
As a Network or IT manager you need to ask yourself,
are the costs involved on a leased line connection
proportional to the real world downtime of your systems?

A Leased Line is a dedicated communications link between two sites.
It is also commonly known as a Lease Line or Private Circuit.
It is used to connect together distant sites, high bandwidths available
It is very expensive compared to alternative technologies.
The most compelling argument for purchasing a
Wireless
Link, Laser Link or
Microwave Link is that...
you will own the link
with
no high annual rental costs.
Let External Networks save your
company thousands of £'s per year - every year with a Microwave, Laser or Radio Link.
